Many times as pediatricians, we find ourselves in the role of telling parents that their child would benefit from a neuropsychological exam. Unfortunately, these conversations are almost always coupled with a discussion of cost. The neuropsych is a time-intensive evaluation, and it is expensive. It usually takes multiple days of in-person testing, and the analysis and write-up can take many hours to complete.
In a discussion with Erica Miller Ph.D., one of the neuropsychologists in the Park Slope community, she shared a number of places that can do excellent evaluations at a lower price. Usually, these are academic institutions where a fellow conducts the exam under the supervision of an experienced professor. We are including a link to a list of these centers. Good luck!
