The other day in the office, a parent of an adolescent patient and I were remembering the feelings we had as kids when our parents sat us down to have a conversation about sex or drugs. We both agreed that our parent’s choice of words had a real impact on how closely we listened. Now, with the rise in the use of e-cigs in the pre-adolescent and adolescent population, we, as parents, must learn the lingo around vaping so that we can have a meaningful conversation and hopefully impact our kid’s decisions. I am including a link (https://www.healthychildren.org/English/ages-stages/teen/substance-abuse/Pages/E-cigarettes.aspx ) here by the American Academy of Pediatrics. This page covers some of the language, paraphernalia, and behaviors that a parent should be familiar with before starting this important conversation. Good luck and please feel free to reach out with any questions.
